There are instances in everyone’s life where one feels they’ve got no control of their life, it doesn’t matter what we want to do or plan for, things just happen as if pre-determined. The more religiously inclined call it “fate” and the controls are in the hands of the God. But has a thought ever occurred to you, “What if our lives are a computer programme that has already been written and is just being executed right now? What if we are mere parameters in the programme who have no control over or cannot change the code? And who is the programmer?” Well, may be you are not as “unconventionally scientifically-inclined” as I am and so this might have never occurred to you.

But it sure has occurred to a few out there, like Nick Bostrom, Professor, Director, Future of Humanity Institute, Oxford University, who published a paper in 2001 with the title that I have stolen for this blog entry. I came across this paper today through another article written on the forum of Graham Hancock’s website. The writer of the article is Jim Elvidge (MS in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University). The idea of people living in a computer simulation has been the theme of popular movies like The Matrix trilogy. But now you know, it is a serious possibility, folks! May be our reality and the world are mere simulations run by us-from-the-future!
