\"\"<\/a> There are instances in everyone’s life where one feels they’ve got no control of their life, it doesn’t matter what we want to do or plan for, things just happen as if pre-determined. The more religiously inclined call it “fate” and the controls are in the hands of the God. But has a thought ever occurred to you, “What if our lives are a computer programme that has already been written and is just being executed right now? What if we are mere parameters in the programme who have no control over or cannot change the code? And who is the programmer?” Well, may be you are not as “unconventionally scientifically-inclined” as I am and so this might have never occurred to you.<\/div>\n

But it sure has occurred to a few out there, like Nick Bostrom<\/a>, Professor, Director, Future of Humanity Institute<\/a>, Oxford University<\/a>, who published a paper<\/a> in 2001 with the title that I have stolen for this blog entry. I came across this paper today through another article written on the forum<\/a> of Graham Hancock’s website. The writer of the article is Jim Elvidge (MS in Electrical Engineering<\/a> from Cornell University). [From the forum] He has applied his training in the high-tech world as a leader in technology and enterprise management, including many years in executive roles for various companies and entrepreneurial ventures. He also holds 4 patents in digital signal processing<\/a> and has written articles for publications as diverse as Monitoring Times and the IEEE<\/a> Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Beyond the high-tech realm, however, Elvidge has years of experience as a musician, writer, and truth seeker. He merged his technology skills with his love of music, developed one of the first PC-based digital music samplers, and co-founded RadioAMP, the first private-label online streaming-radio company<\/a>. For many years, Elvidge has kept pace with the latest research, theories, and discoveries in the varied fields of subatomic physics, cosmology, artificial intelligence<\/a>, nanotechnology, and the paranormal.
